In October 2026, Varna will host the second stage of a creative choral exchange project between the Children’s Choir „Dobri Hristov“ (part of the Municipal Center for Personal Development – Children’s Complex in Varna) and the Children’s Choir „Cantemus“ from Hamburg, Germany. The project was conceived and realized by conductors Galina Stanisheva, Corinna Bergemann, and Clemens Bergemann.
The project began in May, when the Bulgarian children visited Hamburg. From October 15 to 20, Varna will host the second stage of the exchange, with the „Cantemus“ children being welcomed by their peers from the Children’s Choir „Dobri Hristov“.
The Children’s Choir „Cantemus“ from Hamburg was founded in 1999 by Corinna and Clemens Bergemann. The choir’s work places great emphasis on classical vocal training, intensive choral and project-based activities, and interactions with children and choirs from various countries. International cultural exchange is a core element of the „Cantemus“ philosophy; through joint concerts and exchange visits, the children not only explore diverse musical repertoires but also gain insight into the lives, cultures, and traditions of their peers from other countries.

During their stay in Varna, the guests will have the opportunity to explore the city and the cultural heritage of Varna, participate in joint rehearsals and musical activities, and spend time with their Bulgarian friends. An important part of the project is the children’s accommodation with host families, which transforms the musical exchange into a genuine encounter between peers and cultures.

The highlight of the visit will be a joint concert featuring both children’s choirs on October 16, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the City Art Gallery „Boris Georgiev“ in Varna.
The meeting of the two ensembles builds upon an existing creative partnership and offers young choristers the opportunity to share their musical experiences, discover diverse cultural traditions, and forge friendships across borders. It is precisely this that transforms choral singing into not merely an art form, but a space for communication, mutual understanding, and the creation of lasting human connections.
